Le Conseil de presse veut sauver le titre professionnel

<p>Le Conseil de presse du Québec (CPQ) refuse de porter le poids de l'échec des négociations sur le titre professionnel (JP) et tend à nouveau la main à la Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (FPJQ). Selon le secrétaire général de l'organisme, Guy Amyot, la FPJQ n'ayant pas l'appui du milieu journalistique pour mener à bien ce projet, sans la participation du Conseil elle n'arrivera à rien.</p>

CTVNews.ca is hiring a web journalist

<p>CTVNews.ca is <a href="http://jobs.workopolis.com/jobshome/db/gi.job_posting?pi_job_id=9600852&pi_search_id=703281194&pi_sort=POST_DATE&pi_curjob=1&pi_maxjob=22" target="_blank" rel="noopener">looking to hire</a> a web journalist who will be responsible for updating the website with local and national news stories and wire copy at their Scarborough, Ontario office. The applicant will be responsible for 5-7 news stories per day, and writing headlines, photo and video captions, among other things.</p>

More journalists in jail worldwide, but none in the Americas

<p>The number of journalists imprisoned worldwide has jumped by 20 per cent from last year, according to <a href="https://www.cpj.org/reports/2011/12/journalist-imprisonments-jump-worldwide-and-iran-i.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a report</a> by the Committee to Protect Journalists. As of Dec. 1, there were 179 writers, editors and photojournalists in jail.</p><p>But for the first time since they started compiling annual prison surveys in the ‘90s, the CJP found that there were zero journalists in jail for work-related reasons in the Americas.</p>

<p><em>NewsWatch Canada recently released its list of the top 25 underreported stories of the past year. J-Source’s <strong>Belinda Alzner</strong> spoke with the researchers about what types of stories aren’t covered the way they should be, why that is and how journalists and the public can do better.</em></p><p> </p><p>As news organizations start rounding up their top headlines of the last year, the lists will probably boast some familiar names: Will and Kate, Justin Bieber, Stephen Harper, Research in Motion, to name a few.</p>

Under-reported stories

<p><a href="http://pages.cmns.sfu.ca/newswatch/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NewsWatch Canada</a> has released its list of Canada’s <a href="http://pages.cmns.sfu.ca/newswatch/files/2011/11/NewsWatchCanada20111.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">top 25 under-reported stories</a> for 2010-2011. The list, compiled by a group of 13 SFU graduate students in a media monitoring class, includes toxic BPA exposure, the effects of fracking and the state of First Nations reserves. NewsWatch began as a Canadian version of the U.S.-based<a href="http://www.projectcensored.org/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Project Censored</a>.

When the storytelling never stops: Working at an all-day news channel

<p><em><strong>Selena Drepaul</strong>, a producer at CHCH news in Hamilton, Ontario, describes the juggling act required to work at an all-day news channel.</em></p><p>I started in the CHCH newsroom as a writer, just days after the station launched its all-day news format in the fall of 2009. There was a lot of airtime to fill—a LOT. Every story was needed right away. I thought I was a great multitasker. Turns out, I was great at multitasking my simple life, but I had to learn how to juggle infinite news stories.</p>
