The Canadian Press reaches tentative agreement with staff

<p> </p><p>The Canadian Media Guild, which represents workers at The Canadian Press, has announced that they have <a href="http://www.cmg.ca/en/2012/03/08/tentative-agreement-with-the-canadian-press/">come to a tentative agreement on a new deal</a> with the company.</p><p>The three-year deal will see across-the-board wage increases totaling 4 per cent over the lifetime of the agreement, beginning next year. It also includes a provision that will see employees to pay 25 per cent of the cost of health premiums and 100 per cent of LTD premium. </p>

Arab Spring conference calls for right to communicate

<p>Tunis, March 12th, 2012 (AMARC REPORT). More than a hundred associative and community media representatives, freedom of expression activists and delegates from international organizations supporting media called for the institutionalization of the right to communicate for democracy in the region during the closing of the first AMARC Conference in Mashreq and Maghreb on "Community Media and the Arab Spring", that was held in Tunis, on March 9 and 10, 2012.

The session, entitled <strong>You can’t say that! Press freedom and expression of opinion</strong>, featured two newspaper columnists and one former theatre critic.</p>
