LGBT biweekly magazine Xtra has fired Andrea Houston, one of its well-known journalists.
Houston was named the 2012 Honoured Dyke and led the Toronto Pride Dyke March that June for her advocacy and writing, which led to the passage of provincial legislation that forced Ontario Catholic schools to allow students to form gay-straight alliances.
I am no longer at Xtra. It's time to move on. I can now be reached at andrealhouston@gmail.com (note the "L"). New opportunities welcome.

Just to clarify, I was let go from Xtra. You'll hear from me again, but for now I need some time to process this.

“I can tell you it wasn't part of a larger layoff, but I'd like to keep the circumstances private at the moment,” Houston told J-Source in an email. “I loved working at Xtra and covering this beautiful community, and I'm sorry to say goodbye. Going forward, I plan to try my hand at freelancing for a while and look for new opportunities.”
