This week in Canadian media history: Toronto’s CFRB hit the air in 1927

CFRB (Canada's First Rogers Batteryless) first hit the airwaves on Feb.19, 1927. As its name states, it was the first station to use Edward S. (Ted) Rogers' new AC-powered radio sets, as opposed to the industry standard DC sets. The next year, as detailed by Broadcasting History, the station started broadcasting newscasts from the Toronto Globe's editorial offices. In 1948, the station exchanged frequencies with CBC, leading to its current position at 1010 on the AM dial.
