73% of the world’s top newsroom management jobs are held by men, a new study reports.
The Global Report on the Status of Women in the News Media also found that two thirds of reporters are men compared to 36 percent women. “Senior professional women” ranked more equally at 41 percent of the news-gathering, editing and writing jobs. Women hold 26 percent of the governing and 27 percent of the top management jobs.
The study was commissioned by The International Women’s Media Foundation and looked at more than 500 companies in nearly 60 countries. J-Source will follow-up with a feature exploring the study in-depth.
