Vancouver wins mag of the year at WMAs

This 27th annual Western Magazine Awards were handed out at a gala dinner and ceremony June 19 in Vancouver.

Vancouver took home the top award, Magazine of the Year for the second year in a row.

Shelley Youngblut, editor-in-chief of Swerve was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Swerve is the Calgary Herald‘s Friday arts and entertainment magazine. Calgary writer Chris Koentges won two awards for a tribute to his mother, Helen, whose died after fighting brain cancer, which appeared in Swerve.

National Magazine Award mag of the year AlbertaViews won two awards. Other winners included up! magazine, unlimited and Georgia Straight among others.

The Best New Magazine award went to Techlife.
