Description: 

The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Journalism. The appointment will commence July 1, 2014.

Applicants must have a graduate degree in Journalism, or a Ph.D. in a relevant field, and demonstrate excellence in research and teaching. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and broad professional experience in journalism. S/he also should demonstrate an understanding of the changing nature of journalism, both as a practice and as an industry. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is especially welcome: new and emerging media practices, multimedia journalism, convergence journalism, digital storytelling, journalism ethics, and activist journalism.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and will supervise graduate students in his/her area of expertise. S/he will be responsible for the development of a range of undergraduate courses and will take a leading role in the development of the Joint Program in Journalism with Centennial College. S/he will be a full member of the Faculty of Information (iSchool), a graduate unit at the University of Toronto. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
