Steve Meurice is the new editor-in-chief of The Canadian Press.
Meurice was formerly the editor of the National Post and left the newspaper in March after 17 years. No reason was given at the time for his departure. He replaces Scott White, the long-time editor-in-chief of The Canadian Press (CP), who left in March to join Postmedia Network as vice-president of content strategy and business development.

“Steve’s vast experience in leading a large national news-gathering team makes him ideally suited to be the next editor-in-chief of The Canadian Press,” CP’s president Malcolm Kirk said in a press release. “His fresh perspectives, constructive leadership style and commitment to journalistic excellence will further strengthen CP’s reputation for providing fair, accurate and timely news and help us thrive in this new age of journalism.”

“It’s a great honour for me to join The Canadian Press team,” Meurice said. “CP is a Canadian institution that has produced some of the country's best journalism for nearly a century, and I am thrilled to be able to work with its talented, dedicated staff.”
Meanwhile, acting editor-in-chief Andrew Lundy has been appointed the new vice-president of digital at the newswire. This is a new executive management role and Lundy will be responsible for the overall leadership of the news agency’s digital strategy and operations. He will report to Kirk.
“Andrew’s expertise in digital news has already made an important impact at CP, with the creation of our multimedia desk and the strengthening of our story-telling capabilities using new digital tools,” Kirk said.
Thanks everyone for the kind words re: my new role with @CdnPress. And I think the @smeurice hire is a thing of brilliance. Onward!
