Tom Hawthorn won two Grimmies for best obituary and best body of work in 2011 at the Society of Professional Obituary Writers (SPOW) Awards for his freelance work in the Globe and Mail.
His winning portfolio included obituaries of Frank Howard, Eric Nicol, Olive Skene Johnson, Isaiah Oke and Wes Covington. Hawthorn's award-winning best obit on former Member of Parliament Frank Howard described how he “went from breaking laws to making them.”
The awards were handed out June 9 in Toronto during the SPOW conference. Check out the full list of Grimmies award winners.
