We invite you to consider joining the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), a research intensive institution with a globally trained faculty and innovative teaching.

The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in the Communication program whose research and teaching interests focus on progressive communication in the information age.  We seek an outstanding colleague with which to collaborate in areas related to critical organizational communication, labour studies, political economy, and science and technology studies.  Preference will be given to a candidate whose research profile encompasses the study of information societies in domains such as but not limited to:  new knowledge economies, participatory culture, e-government and e-society, immaterial labour, creative industries, gaming, and/or e-health.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach existing undergraduate courses in his or her speciality, as well as core courses that support our undergraduate major (such as rhetorical and communication theory, oral communication, and/or research methods) and to develop and teach topical courses that support our planned MA program.

The faculty member will be expected to focus on "excellence" in teaching and learning, an important element of UOIT's academic mission. UOIT offers its students a technology enhanced learning experience; therefore some familiarity with online course delivery is an asset for this position. Our course development support team will assist new faculty with the preparation and delivery of all course materials.

Review of applications will begin on January 2, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled. Please send electronically a formal letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching interests/experience, an outline of your present and future research agendas and three letters of recommendation to careers@uoit.ca.  Please indicate the competition number in the subject line of the email.

UOIT is strongly committed to diversity within its community, and welcomes applications from qualified visible minority group members, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups, and others who may contribute to further the diversification of ideas. UOIT also offers the opportunity to teach, conduct research and live near one of the most diverse cities in the world, Toronto. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
