The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission has
approved Quebecor Inc.’s 24-hour conservative-leaning news channel Sun
TV.
Sun TV was granted Category 2 specialty service license for five years, the Toronto Star reports. The media company reportedly dropped its request for the more favourable Category 1 licensing.
While it isn’t clear why the request was dropped, the request was considered controversial and kicked up quite the fuss — cumulating into the well-publicized petition scandal.
