Saskatoon StarPhoenix sports journalist Bob Florence, 50, was assaulted blocks from his home in the early hours of February 27 and is currently in intensive-care unit in a Saskatoon hospital, the StarPhoenix reports.
No arrests have been made and police are still looking for more information.
Florence joined the StarPhoenix in 1978 and has covered local sports as well as both the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics. He currently writes a regular column.
StarPhoenix editor Steve Gibb said:
“Bob is a quiet individual, but one of the most caring and generous individuals one could ever meet. He is also one of the hardest working and most talented members of our StarPhoenix family. We can only hope for his speedy recovery and that those responsible are quickly brought to justice.”
The StarPhoenix has reprinted a column by Florence’s colleague Dave Debert called “Bob Florence flashback: Moment in spotlight much deserved,” which originally ran in 2003.
