News that the Quebec Press Council is
in Crisis raises questions about the failing health of Canada’s press
councils. Required background reading is Don Sellar’s Press Councils in
Sad Decline, posted last spring. Ironically, at about the same time, an
independent report for the Canadian Human Rights Commission called for the
establishment of a compulsory
national press council.
The Quebec Council’s website is published in French and English.
Fagstein has posted a concise round-up
of recent decisions. For further context, read this
backgrounder on Canadian councils prepared for the Parliamentary Review by
Graham Addley and Maria Kurylo.
