Canadian journalist Kennedy Jawoko named International Knight Journalism Fellow

<p><span style="font-size: 10px;">Canadian freelance journalist Kennedy Jawoko been named one of the eight international Knight Journalism Fellows.</span></p><p>The Knight Fellowships program encourages journalistic innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership. Jawoko’s proposal looks at a portal that facilitates connections and helps incubate ideas among East African journalists, according to the <a href="http://knight.stanford.edu/news-notes/2013/2014-international-knight-journalism-fellows-selected/">program website</a>.</p>

Marissa Nelson named senior director of digital media at CBC News

<p>Marissa nelson has been named the senior director for digital media with CBC News and Centres. </p><div>Nelson became the acting director after Rachel Nixon departed from the position in August 2012 to become Principal News Director, Bing Application Experiences at Microsoft. Previously she was the managing editor of cbcnews.ca and senior editor of digital news at the<em> Toronto Star</em>. </div><div> </div>

Global News bringing more local news to Halifax, New Brunswick

<p><strong>By Tamara Baluja</strong></p><p>Global News is adding two 30-minute local newscasts for Halifax and New Brunswick audiences starting Monday April 15.</p><p>The one-hour Global Maritimes News Final show will be replaced by local programming from Global Halifax and Global News Brunswick stations and will feature hyperlocal weather and news tailored to each province.</p>

Postmedia chairman Ron Osborne died

<p>Canadian media executive Ronald Osborne has died, the <a href="http://business.financialpost.com/2013/04/09/media-executive-ron-osborne-66-passes-suddenly/">Financial Post reported</a>.</p><p>The 66-year-old chairman of the Postmedia Network Inc. board, who often went by “Ron,” passed away suddenly Monday in Florida.</p>

Stephanie Nolen to head Globe’s new Latin American bureau

<p><em>The Globe and Mail</em> is opening a new Latin American bureau with NNA-winning journalist <a href="https://twitter.com/snolen">Stephanie Nolen</a> as bureau chief.</p><p>Nolen told J-Source in an email that she hopes to be in Rio de Janeiro, pending visa clearances, by August. She is currently <em>The Globe</em>’s South Asian correspondent and formerly reported from Johannesburg as well.</p>

Tessa Sproule named new CBC director of digital
