discussion with CBC Radio 3 director Steve Pratt about public media in a

Description:
Steve Pratt, director of CBC Radio 3, will talk about public media in a digital era and the challenges of media-making in today’s rapidly changing digital landscape. Steve will tell us why he thinks the award-winning CBC Radio 3 has become a leader in multi-platform content.

Speaker:
Steve Pratt is the Director of the CBC Radio 3 and CBC Radio Digital Programming. The CBC Radio 3 website, featuring 100% Canadian music has been nominated for a Webby Award two years in a row for Best Online Radio Station. Steve is a regular speaker on the subject of the future of music, the future of media, training traditional media in using new media, and the power and proper execution of social networking. In the past he has also worked for MuchMusic, AOL Canada, CTV, and YTV.

Moderator:
Karen Pinchin is the Vancouver editor of OpenFile.ca, a collaborative community news site that allows citizens to set the news agenda in their own neighbourhoods and see their story ideas reported by professional journalists. After less than a year of being online in Toronto, OpenFile was nominated for two 2010 Canadian Online Publishing Awards and will begin expanding across Canada this fall. Karen has worked as a reporter and editor at Maclean’s, The Canadian Press and Newsweek International, but she’s been waiting to promote journalism in the public interest using the muscles of the Internet for a very, very long time.
