I’m pleased to welcome Julie McCann as J-Source’s new Field Notes editor.

McCann is a full-time journalism professor at Algonquin College, in Ottawa, where she has worked since 2003. Previously, she was a staff writer at National Post Business and Marketing magazines and a contributor to Chatelaine, Canadian Geographic, Applied Arts, the Montreal Gazette and the Ottawa Citizen, among others. She is also the co-founder of Glue, a student-focused city magazine produced by Algonquin journalism and advertising students, which just celebrated its tenth anniversary.

McCann replaces Nicole Blanchett Neheli, who I’m happy to report, is taking on the new role of executive video editor at J-Source. Earlier this year, she helped produce J-Source’s first two videos—how the CBC uses hidden cameras and a look at how printing presses work—which were great successes. You may also recall that Neheli Blanchett’s students at Sheridan College, in Oakville, Ont., were shortlisted for an International Data Journalism Award this spring, alongside such heavyweights as The New York Times, Mother Jones and ProPublica, so we look forward to producing more great video content under her guidance.
