Long-time journalist Linda McQuaig announced Tuesday that she is seeking NDP nomination to run in the Toronto Centre riding recently vacated by former interim Liberal leader Bob Rae.

Long-time journalist Linda McQuaig announced Tuesday that she is seeking NDP nomination to run in the Toronto Centre riding recently vacated by former interim Liberal leader Bob Rae.

“I’ve dedicated my professional life to writing and speaking publicly about issues that I care about deeply – countering income inequality and the austerity agenda, protecting and enhancing our public programs, tackling climate change and other environmental threats, and returning Canada to a constructive role in the world,” McQuaig said in a statement. “I now want to move from advocacy to action.”

McQuaig has worked as national reporter for The Globe and Mail, a Toronto Star columnist and an associate producer for CBC Radio.

She is the third journalist who has entered the race in Toronto-Centre. She is up against Jennifer Hollett, a former television host who worked for Much Music, CBC and CTV, for the NDP nomination. Meanwhile, international author and journalist Chrystia Freeland said she would be seeking the Liberal nomination to fill Rae’s seat.
