Jeremy Agius leaves Canadian Press for Globe

 Jeremy Agius is leaving The Canadian Press after 13 years to join The Globe and Mail.

Agius, a graphic artist and interactive designer for The Canadian Press’ multimedia desk, will become an interactive editor at the Globe. He will join the new mobile and interactive unit headed by senior editor Matt Frehner.

 Jeremy Agius is leaving The Canadian Press after 13 years to join The Globe and Mail.

Agius, a graphic artist and interactive designer for The Canadian Press’ multimedia desk, will become an interactive editor at the Globe. He will join the new mobile and interactive unit headed by senior editor Matt Frehner.

Andrew Lundy, acting editor-in-chief for The Canadian Press, said Agius’s last day is Aug. 21.

“Much of Jeremy’s talent, particularly on the developer side of the equation, is self-taught, and it’s to his credit that he’s kept up with the insane pace of change in digital news for more than a decade,” Lundy said in a memo. “In that time, he has created provincial and federal elections results interactives, created six complete Olympics packages, and suffered through countless midnight census lockups. That’s in addition to his daily work serving our bureaus and departments across the country.”

Agius was part of The Canadian Press team that won a National Newspaper Award for coverage of the 2011 census.

“We will look to fill Jeremy’s considerable shoes immediately; nobody will replace his humour, spirit or talent, but he helped make that role indispensable and it’s critical we find another Jeremy as soon as possible,” Lundy added.
