J-Source welcomes new Associate Editor Tamara Baluja

TORONTO, March 7 – J-Source is pleased to announce Tamara Baluja as its new Associate Editor.

As a freelance reporter, Baluja’s work has appeared in The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. She has also worked as a writer/producer for Global News. Prior to freelancing, Baluja worked as a national reporter at The Globe and Mail.  Baluja won The Canadian Journalism Foundation’s Greg Clark Award last year, producing compelling stories about the educational system of First Nations in B.C. Baluja also had reporting stints at AP (London, UK), The Province (Vancouver), and the Toronto Star radio room.

Baluja replaces Belinda Alzner, who is moving on to become a digital journalism specialist at ScribbleLive.

“Tamara is an entrepreneurial freelancer with an impressive range of multimedia experience,” said Janice Neil, editor-in-chief of J-Source.  At the same time, Neil said: “We will miss Belinda’s dedication and passion.”

Launched in 2007, J-Source—along with its French-language counterpart ProjetJ –is an initiative of The Canadian Journalism Foundation in collaboration with several universities and partner organizations. The site aims to promote journalistic excellence by providing space for critical reflection and tools for development. It discusses, among other things, training, ethics and research. It also provides a forum for discussion and debate among journalists, teachers and students on current issues and the future of the profession.

ProjetJ and J-Source are the recipients of the Canadian Association of Journalists President’s Award, which recognizes a significant contribution to Canadian journalism and is given only under circumstances of exceptional merit.
