Battle of bosses in Quebec media

1)      Pierre Karl Peladeau responds to André Pratte’s ‘inconsistencies’ claim

On Friday, we showed you a piece by La Presse editor-in-chief André Pratte, where he accused Quebecor of inconsistencies in its stance on the Bell-Astral deal based on the fact that Quebecor itself controls a large share of the market. In his publications this weekend, Quebecor President and CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau responded, saying the piece demonstrated Pratte’s “selective indignation,” and says that a number of groups supporting the Bell-Astral bid do so under a conflict of interest. Peladeau continues, saying that La Presse uses its opinion pages to enforce its business interests.

2)      Pratte publishes another editorial in response

This morning, La Presse published another piece by Pratte in response to Peladeau’s claims. Gesca, which owns La Presse, submitted its memorandum on the Bell-Astral deal to the CRTC and did not use the opinion pages to further its point of view, he says. Pratte also says that Peledeau did not respond to Pratte’s initial point about Quebecor’s market share.
