Dan Leger, director of news content for The Chronicle Herald in Halifax, argues that the infamous photograph of Saddam Hussein, shot moments before his hanging, “had to be published.” Leger says the paper received angry letters from disgusted and offended readers, but justifies his choice to run the photo on Page One, saying, “Journalism is all about … reflecting the sacred and profane, the beautiful and the appalling.”
