The Guardian (PEI) gets new opinion and news editors

Wayne Thibodeau has been named the news editor of The Guardian.

Wayne Thibodeau has been named the news editor of The Guardian.

In his new role, Thibodeau will work as the PEI newspaper’s news and assignment editor. Previously, Thibodeau led the team that launched The Guardian’s metered paywall. He was also part of the team that redesigned the newspaper’s website. Thibodeau first joined The Guardian’s Charlottetown newsroom as chief political reporter in 1997. He has also worked at Global News as its PEI bureau chief and at Canada.com.

He replaces Bill McGuire, who was appointed opinion/editorial editor following Roseanne Macdonald’s retirement from The Guardian.

In his new role, McGuire will be responsible for The Guardian’s editorial, columns and letters to the editor. He served as the newspaper’s news editor for a decade, from 2003 to October 2013, and its sports editor from 1981 to1993. McGuire has held senior roles at various Maritime newspapers, such as managing editor of The Guardian’s now-defunct sister publication, The Evening Patriot, the managing editor at Truro Daily News, in Nova Scotia, and news editor at The Cape Breton Post in Sydney, NS.
