Global News makes history as first Canadian network to win Edward R. Murrow Award

Global News has won the Radio Television Digital News Association's (RTNDA) National Edward R Murrow award for Overall Excellence for network television.

It`s a historic win for its flagship newscast Global National with Dawna Friesen, and marks the first time a Canadian network has won the award since it was first presented in 1971. Recent award-winners include ABC News and NBC News.

It`s a historic win for its flagship newscast Global National with Dawna Friesen, and marks the first time a Canadian network has won the award since it was first presented in 1971. Recent award-winners include ABC News and NBC News.

“This is one of the biggest awards in TV news worldwide, and has long been dominated by the major US and international networks,” says Troy Reeb, senior vice president of Global News in an email statement to J-Source. “That it should go to Global News is a tremendous testament to the talent, hard work and journalistic integrity of our organization.”

Global National debuted in 2001 and has a staff of 85 around the world worked on the broadcasts.
