 Global BC anchor Deb Hope is retiring after more than three decades as a journalist.

 Global BC anchor Deb Hope is retiring after more than three decades as a journalist.

She joined Global News in 1981, when it was still known as BCTV, and worked her way up the ranks as a reporter, producer and anchor. Currently, she anchors the Noon News and Early News shows. She previously worked as a reporter for the Canadian Press and the now-defunct United Press Canada. Her career got a head start as a student journalist working at the University of British Columbia’s campus newspaper, Ubyssey, and campus radio station, CITR.

“For more than three decades, Hope has demonstrated a tireless commitment to delivering the news to our community,” said Kenton Boston, vice-president of Global BC, said in a statement. “She is considered an icon in B.C. and we salute her for her years of dedicated service. We wish Deb continued success in all her future endeavours. We will always consider her part of our Global family.”

Hope’s last day is March 21.

“I’ve loved my job for three over three decades, working with so many amazing colleagues at Global,” Hope said. “It has been my pleasure to meet so many British Columbians when I’ve been out in the field. I want to give a special thanks to our viewers for tuning in.”

Her replacement has yet to be named, a Shaw Media spokesperson said.
