While the safe release of CBC reporter Mellissa Fung is cause for celebration, the CJFE reminds Canadians that two of her Afghan co-workers, employees of the CBC, are still in custody.
Shakoor Ferog, the Afghan translator and ‘fixer’, and his brother, who served as the driver of the CBC vehicle at the time of the abduction, are both still in custody.
“It is vital that while celebrating the good news of Fung’s release, Canadians do not forget her two colleagues,” said CJFE President Arnold Amber, in a news release.
According to the CJFE, the two men are being held by Afghan Intelligence services who have been connected with acts of torture in the past. The organization welcomes Fung’s release but asks that “work continue to secure the urgent release of her two colleagues.”
Ferog has worked for the CBC for more than five years.
