Former Globe and Mail reporter Dawn Walton joined CTV Calgary as its managing editor on Monday.

She replaces Jeff Little, who will continue as the director of news and public affairs at the station.

“He was really doing double duty here for a quite a while. But my focus will be on editorial content— breaking news, people stories, all things new and interesting,” Walton told J-Source in an email. “I’ll be working with the reporters, producers and the assignment desk on story development.”

Walton joined the Globe in 1997 as a Report on Business reporter in Toronto and then moved to the Calgary bureau. She took a buyout and left the newspaper after 13 years as national correspondent last June.

Describing her transition from print to broadcasting, Walton said the move is “exciting.”

“Newspapers recently moved so heavily into digital content that the importance of art, photos and video is not lost on me,” she said. “News is news, right? And Alberta is a hotbed of stories.”
