Edmonton Journal picks up seven awards at the Society for Features Journalism

The Edmonton Journal won seven awards at the Society for Features Journalism awards.

Jana Pruden, a crime reporter at the Journal, won first prizes for narrative writing and feature speciality writing portfolio, while staff reporter Fish Griwkowsky won the third prize in the latter category.

The Edmonton Journal won seven awards at the Society for Features Journalism awards.

Jana Pruden, a crime reporter at the Journal, won first prizes for narrative writing and feature speciality writing portfolio, while staff reporter Fish Griwkowsky won the third prize in the latter category.

Liz Nicholls won third prize in the arts and entertainment commentary portfolio category for her theatre reviews, Rick McConnell came third in the general feature category and Elizabeth Withey came third in the short feature category.

The Edmonton Journal also won for best section in its division.

“Its efforts rival those of larger Canadian dailies, with the authority that readers should demand from their newspapers. Content is varied,” judges said. “Images are typically well-played and complement the storytelling. You want to sit with these sections, digest them and enjoy them.”

The winners will receive their awards in August at the society’s national conference in Nashville.
