 Broadcast news veteran Hudson Mack has retired from his role as senior anchor and news director after 10 years at CTV Vancouver Island.

 Broadcast news veteran Hudson Mack has retired from his role as senior anchor and news director after 10 years at CTV Vancouver Island.

Mack said he was retiring on his 54th birthday. “This has always been a significant milestone for me because when I was 14 years old my dad died at the age of 54. It has helped me realize the time is right for a change,” he said in a statement. “I have a number of projects I want to pursue and opportunities to explore.”

“His departure was unexpected,” the Victoria Times Colonist reported.

Mack joined CTV News in 2004 after 19 years as senior anchor and assistant news director at Victoria’s CHEK TV. Prior to that, he worked at CJFC in Kamloops, B.C., and CKPG in Prince George, B.C. “I love broadcast journalism and am fortunate I can say that in 35 uninterrupted years in the business I have always been excited to get up in the morning and go to work,” Mack added.

“For the past decade, Hudson has demonstrated a tireless commitment to delivering the news to our community,” said Kevin Bell, general manager at CTV Vancouver Island, in a press release. “We thank him for his years of dedicated service, and wish him continued success in his future endeavours.” Reporter Andrew Johnson will serve as anchor and assistant news director while Heather Kim will work as news director until a permanent replacement is named.

Last year, Mack received the president’s award from the Radio-Television Digital News Association of Canada.
