CBC-TV head criticizes cable companies

The head of CBC-TV yesterday criticized two of Canada’s leading cable companies for their refusal to pay into the Canadian Television Fund. Richard Stursberg, executive vice president of CBC-TV, said cable giants Videotron Ltee. and Shaw Communications must follow government regulations and pay into the fund which finances production of Canadian TV shows. Shaw and Videotron withdrew their support last week, saying a large percentage goes to finance shows for CBC which already receives direct government support.
