READ MORE<p> </p><p>Freelance writers wishing to apply for the book or magazine award can submit their work from Monday, March 12, 2012 until Friday June 15, 2012 at 5 PM PST. The separate book and magazine awards recognize excellence of writing and research in the area of social justice writing and also provide support for independent freelance writers during the publishing process.</p><p>The Book Award for 2012 has been increased to $5,000. The Magazine Award for 2012 is set at $2,000. </p>

READ MORE<p> </p><p>The Canadian Media Guild, which represents workers at The Canadian Press, has announced that they have <a href="http://www.cmg.ca/en/2012/03/08/tentative-agreement-with-the-canadian-press/">come to a tentative agreement on a new deal</a> with the company.</p><p>The three-year deal will see across-the-board wage increases totaling 4 per cent over the lifetime of the agreement, beginning next year. It also includes a provision that will see employees to pay 25 per cent of the cost of health premiums and 100 per cent of LTD premium. </p>
