Gaze magazine ceases publication

<p>The current issue of Halifax-based <em>Gaze</em> magazine will be its last.</p><p>The self-dubbed queer quarterly was founded last July by former <em>Frank</em> magazine editor John Williams. <a href="http://openfile.ca/halifax/blog/curator-blog/curated-news/2011/gaze-magazine-publishes-its-last-issue" target="_blank" rel="noopener">As OpenFile reports</a>, he wanted to show the LGBT community is “really not that different”.</p><p>Unfortunately, the magazine couldn’t sell enough adverting to keep it in print.</p><p>In the farewell edition Williams writes:</p>

The CBC got it wrong on Rob Ford: Torontoist

<p>When it comes to the Rob Ford/22 Minutes sideshow the CBC failed big time, writes Mark Bourrie in the <a href="http://torontoist.com/2011/11/how-the-cbc-got-it-wrong-on-rob-ford/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Torontoist</em></a>.</p><p>Bourrie says he’s not a CBC-basher. The CBC, he says, provides a vital function and Canada needs the network. It’s just that most Canadians don’t know the Toronto mayor, and most don’t hate him.</p>

Quirks and Quarks host Bob McDonald gets Order of Canada

<p>CBC’s <em>Quirks and Quarks</em> host Bob McDonald will officially become and Officer of the Order of Canada Friday.</p><p>The longtime science journalist is one of 10 Canucks set to receive the prestigious officer rank tomorrow. In total, 39 Canadians are being named to the Order of Canada this round.</p><p>The honour is intended to recognize a lifetime of top achievement, contribution and dedication to the nation. McDonald is received a nod for his contribution as a journalist and an educator, as well as his role in making science understandable and interesting for the public.</p>
