What journalism students brought to the coverage of the Occupy movement

<p>This fall, the global Occupy movement drew a lot of attention – and headlines – from the media. After a slow start, most covered the protesters and gave their critique about the movement with plenty of ink, pixels and screen time. But it was also an opportunity for student journalists to join in on the coverage, with the protests often happening just blocks away from campus — and possibly being more compelling than a late-night student council meeting.</p>

Infographic: How the news was shared online in 2011

<p>AddThis just released an <a href="http://www.addthis.com/blog/2011/12/13/sharing-trends-in-2011/#.TudmLrIk6dB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">infographic</a> that gives an idea of how news and information was shared online in 2011. Facebook came out on top, accounting for over 50 per cent of sharing, up from 44 per cent last year.</p>

Entries for the 2011 Atlantic Journalism Awards are now open

The Atlantic Journalism Awards is now accepting entries for this year's awards.  Journalists and news organizations in Atlantic Canada can submit any piece that was published in 2011. This year there are 28 accolades to be given – including those for seven newspaper categories, five radio, five television, three Atlantic magazine, and eight categories for any news media. The application deadline is January 31, 2012, and the awards will be given out on May 5, 2012 at the Delta Fredericton in New Brunswick.

Huffington Post Québec: 5 questions à l’éditeur, Patrick White

<p>Le<em> Huffington Post Québec</em> a annoncé vendredi la nomination de Patrick White au poste de rédacteur en chef et éditeur. Rédacteur en chef de Canoë depuis janvier 2010, Patrick White a 20 ans de journalisme sous la cravate. Il a notamment été correspondant pour l'agence Reuters, rédacteur en chef adjoint de La Presse Canadienne et chef des nouvelles au <em>Journal de Québec</em>. Il entrera en fonction le 19 décembre et lancera l'antenne québécoise du site américain en janvier. Il a répondu aux questions de <em>ProjetJ</em>.</p>
