Two wealthy businessmen, Ronald W. Burkle and Eli Broad, have made a late bid for the Tribune Company, which counts the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune among its many holdings. The New York Times reports that the new offer is $1 a share higher than a bid that was already under discussion.
