Al-Jazeera English and Canadian Journalists for Free Expression will hold a vigil on Feb. 27 for three imprisoned Al-Jazeera journalists. Canadian Mohamed Fahmy, Australian Peter Greste and Egyptian Baher Mohamed have been imprisoned in Egypt since Dec. 29 on charges of spreading false news.
With the theme Journalism is Not a Crime, the vigil is scheduled for Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto at noon Thursday.
The organizers say the three have experienced solitary confinement, torture and denial of medical treatment, as have other journalists accused of such crimes in today’s Egypt.
A petition associated with the vigil is also available online.
