Kory Teneycke, Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s former communications
director, will become head of Quebecor’s Parliment Hill bureau, Canwest
reports, adding that he is “effectively overseeing coverage of a government for which he was chief spokesman one year ago.”
Teneycke will become VP of development of Quebecor, a Montreal-based company that publishes the Sun chain of newspapers. He was recently named a political correspondent for the CBC, a move that raised a lot of controversy for the public broadcaster.
Teneycke has resigned from the CBC, announcing his new role on Twitter. He did not mention his bureau position:
“”Have accepted job as VP Development at Quebecor Media Inc., and with regret resigned from CBC. Many thanks to the CBC for a short, fun ride.”
The announcement has raised more controversy about whether a politician should be working in a newsroom. Canwest reports:
“”This doesn’t pass anybody’s smell test,” said Angus, MP for Timmins-James Bay. “The Ottawa bureau has a journalistic role for the nation. A guy like Kory Teneycke has no business being involved in the Ottawa bureau in any capacity. He’s a militant partisan of Stephen Harper.” “
