 
          
            A photo of a U.S. soldier resting at “Restrepo” bunker in Afghanistan after the death of a comrade has taken first prize in the World Press Photo Contest. The photo, by Tim Hetherington for Vanity Fair was named Photo of the Year. The photo and a CBC story is here. Four Canadians were among the overall winners in in the contest: Stephen Morrison with a spot news shot in Kenya, for European Pressphoto Agency; Christopher Anderson, in the daily life category for a photo essay for National Geographic; Lana Slezic, for portraits ofAfghan women for Panos Pictures; and Paul Nicklen, for a nature photo essay for National Geographic.
