Al-Jazeera, CJFE plan vigil for jailed journalists

<p><a href="http://www.aljazeera.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Al-Jazeera English</a> and <a href="http://www.cjfe.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canadian Journalists for Free Expression</a> will hold <a href="http://www.cjfe.org/resources/media_releases/journalism-not-crime-al-jazeera-english-and-cjfe-hold-day-action" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a vigil on Feb. 27</a> for three imprisoned Al-Jazeera journalists. Canadian Mohamed Fahmy, Australian Peter Greste and Egyptian Baher Mohamed have been imprisoned in Egypt since Dec. 29 on charges of spreading false<sup> </sup>news.</p>

Canadian University Press in financial crisis

CUP memo on laying off part-time staff

<p>Dear CUP members,<br /><br />I’m sorry to inform you that CUP is no longer able to employ its part-time staff for the duration of this academic year. Effective March 1, 2014, our 12 current part-time staff will be laid off from their jobs.<br /><br />This decision was not taken lightly by the CUP Board of Directors and it is not a reflection of the time, energy and commitment our staff demonstrated consistently throughout this year. The decision was based solely on CUP’s dire financials, which constitutes a state of emergency for our organization.<br />

Five media outlets ordered to turn over photos, video of New Brunswick protest to RCMP

Global’s Tom Vernon named new Alberta provincial affairs reporter

He replaces <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/vassy-kapelos-joining-global-national%E2%80%99s-ottawa-bureau">Vassy Kapelos, who joined Global National</a> as a parliamentary correspondent in Ottawa in December.</p>

Hannah Yoon wins Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award
