University of British Colombia journalism students have collaborated with The New York Times to produce a video called Dying for Land. The video exposes conflicts over resources and territory between farmers and indigenous people near the Brazil-Paraguay boarder.

Craig Silverman finds error in oil spill photo

Regret the Error founder Craig Silverman has spotted a mistake in a photo on Canadian magazine, Common Ground’s Facebook page. The magazine claims that the photo is of a recent oil spill in Alberta, when it is actually a photo of an oil spill in Alaska taken in 2001

Winnipeg Free Press reporter awarded by Archaeological Association

The Canadian Archaeological Association has awarded Bill Redekop, the Winnipeg Free Press’ regional reporter for a story he wrote last year. He won the writer/producer category and received a Public Communication Award.

Although Sanga Jabarkhil’s family did not speak with her for a year, the young Afghan woman continued her career in broadcast. Many of her family and friends are unhappy in her career choice, as it is controversial for a woman to be in such a profession in Afghanistan.

Toronto police say a 22-year-old man who was one of several people shot at the Eaton Centre last weekend died of injuries last night. The Globe and Mail did not name the victim, due to a publication ban, but the Toronto Star has.
