Charles Foran’s Mordecai wins Charles Taylor Prize for literary non-fiction

Author Charles Foran has been awarded the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction
— and the $25,000 prize that comes with it — for his biography
Mordecai: The Life and Times, about CanLit hero Mordecai Richler. Last year’s winner was writer and journalist Ian Brown for his book The Boy in the Moon, about his severely disabled son.

Other 2011 nominees included Stevie Cameron for On the Farm: Robert William Pickton and the Tragic Story of Vancouver’s Missing Women; Ross King for Defiant Spirits: The Modernist Revolution of the Group of Seven; George Sipos for The Geography of Arrival; and Merrily Weisbord for The Love Queen of Malabar: Memoir of a Friendship with Kamala Das.
