Three laid off at Brantford Expositor

<p>Three staff at the <em>Brantford Expositor</em> have been laid off as part of the 200 company-wide job cuts at Sun Media.</p><p>Hugo Rodrigues, who covers the city hall beat for the <em>Expositor</em>, and Jim Alexander, a sales representative, and Carol McFarlane,a customer service rep, have been laid off. Rodrigues, who is also the president of the Canadian Association of Journalists, and McFarlane are on a 30-day notice period as per their collective agreement with Sun Media.</p><p>Alexander was not a member of the bargaining unit so his departure was effective immediately. </p>

Miranda Purves leaves Flare

<p>Miranda Purves, the editor-in-chief of <em>Flare</em>, is leaving the Canadian publication at the end of January to move back to New York.</p><p>According to D. B. Scott, who runs <a href="http://canadianmags.blogspot.ca/2013/12/miranda-purves-leaving-as-flare-editor.html">Canadianmags.blogspot.ca</a>, Purves is leaving <em>Flare</em> "to be closer to her family.”</p><p>Purves was an editor at <em>Elle</em> U.S. before joining <em>Flare</em> in 2012. </p><hr /><p><strong>Related content on J-Source:</strong></p>

Emploi: bilan 2013 mitigé dans l’industrie

<p><strong>Les salariés de Québecor Media ont payé le plus lourd tribut cette année avec des coupures annoncées du côté de TVA et de Sun Media. TC Media s’est également vu amputer de quelques journalistes sur l’Ile de Montréal. Et si Gesca s’est séparé d’une dizaine de surnuméraires, il n’en reste pas mois que La Presse+ a généré une centaine d’embauches. CBC launches Aboriginal digital unit
