Globe public editor: The importance of diversity in photos

Canadian Jewish News names new president and editor

<p>Elizabeth Wolfe is the new president of the <em>Canadian Jewish News (CJN)</em>. Wolfe, who previously served as  vice-president, took helm of the independent Jewish newspaper last week when Donald Carr stepped down as president after 23 years. The <em>CJN</em> also appointed Yoni Goldstein as the new editor starting Jan. 6, 2014.</p>

Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale drops lawsuit against Mayor Rob Ford

<p><em>Toronto Star</em> reporter <a href="http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/12/18/daniel_dale_drops_libel_suit_after_mayor_rob_ford_apologizes_again.html">Daniel Dale dropped his lawsuit against Rob Ford</a> after the Toronto mayor issued a second apology Wednesday night.</p><p>Following his apology at city council on Tuesday, Ford sent Dale a <a href="http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/12/18/rob_fords_apology_to_daniel_dale.html">written, two-page apology</a>.</p>

The Rob Ford fiasco contains many lessons for journalists

Updated: Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale continuing with libel suit despite Mayor Rob Ford’s apology

<p>Toronto Mayor Rob Ford apologized to <em>Toronto Star</em> reporter Daniel Dale during a city council meeting today, saying he did not mean to suggest Dale was a pedophile. But the reporter says Ford’s statement didn’t come close to being a sufficient apology and retraction, and he intends to continue with a libel lawsuit. </p><p>In his statement, Ford blamed the insinuation on media who “ascribed” the word to his remarks.</p>
