Annotated version of Gay Talese’s Joe DiMaggio profile: Grantland

<p><em>Grantland</em> has published an <a href="http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7115592/silent-season-hero#footnote2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">annotated version</a> of Gay Talese’s much-loved <em>Esquire </em>profile of Joe DiMaggio. Manitoba radio station suspends coverage of hockey team at centre of hazing scandal

<p>Neepawa hockey station CJBP-FM is refusing to include the town’s hockey team in its Manitoba Junior League Hockey coverage after its involvement in now-controversial hazing incident.</p>

Charles Oberdorf remembered

<p>The National Magazine Awards Foundation has a <a href="http://blog.magazine-awards.com/2011/10/25/charles-oberdorf-remembered/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lovely compilation of quotes</a> up about Charles Oberdorf from June 2008, when Oberdorf was presented with the NMAF’s award for outstanding achievement.</p><p>Family, friends and loved ones gathered in Toronto earlier this week to honour Oberdorf’s life. Oberdorf, known to many in the industry as an editor, writer, volunteer, teacher, mentor and friend, died September 16th.</p>

Homemakers closes after 45 years

<p>Transcontinental Media is closing <a href="http://www.freshjuice.ca" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Homemakers</em></a> after 45 years of publication. The last scheduled printed issue is the upcoming 2011 holiday edition.</p><p>The magazine currently has 120,000 subscribers, and according to the most recent PMB data over 1.4 million readers per issue.</p>

Award-winning educator brings hyperlocal news to Oshawa through college program

<p><em>Durham College journalism professor <strong>Anna Rodrigues</strong> provides both her students and her community an a valuable resource with <a href="http://www.downtownoshawanews.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Downtown Oshawa News blog</a>. This hyperlocal news project gives students an excellent learning tool related to hyperlocal news and also serves the community with insight into an interesting neighbourhood. The work is so innovative, she won an award for her work.</em></p>

Vancouver Sun EIC Patricia Graham leaves top spot; becomes VP of digital at PNG

<p>Patricia Graham is exiting the editor's desk at <em>The Vancouver Sun</em>, a spot she's had for eight years, to become vice-president of digital at the Pacific Newspaper Group, a division of Postmedia which publishes <em>The Sun</em>.<br /><br />The position is newly-created. Under Graham,<em> The Sun</em> was the most successful website among the Postmedia metro newsrooms.<br /><br />As Graham puts it in a <a href="http://www.vancouversun.com/news/editor+moves+vice+president+digital+Pacific+Newspaper+Group/5591722/story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Vancouver Sun</em> article</a>:</p>

Was Ford telling the truth about 22 minutes ambush?

<p>Now that the clip of Mary Walsh playing Marg Delahunty has been released some are wondering if Toronto mayor Rob Ford <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/ford-and-22-minutes-joke-was-it-funny" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told the truth about the stunt</a>.<br /><br />For starters, Ford told media yesterday that it was dark out and he didn’t recognize her; it looks fairly light in the clip. He also said she never identified herself; she did. Also, Ford's young daughter, who ford said was frightened by the incident, was nowhere to be seen.<br />
