Journalism program among nine cut at Cambrian College

<p>On Thursday night, Cambrian College’s board of governors voted to accept a recommendation that will effectively shut down nine programs at the school – including journalism. In fact, the school of Media Studies at the Sudbury college was <a href="http://www.thesudburystar.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3510419">eliminated completely</a>.</p>

Aggregation, real reporters and local ads: CBC tests online-only news in Hamilton

<p><em>The CBC Hamilton news service is a first for the public broadcaster: A stand-alone website with no radio station and no television outlet. <strong>Arik Ligeti</strong> reports on why CBC decided to try this now, and looks at what it will add to the local media market, which has already seen at least one online-only outlet fold. </em></p><p> </p><p>The CBC is pouring resources into its hyperlocal news experiment, assigning more journalists to the digital-only Hamilton newsroom than to its radio newsroom in Thunder Bay.</p>

Student journos: apply now to attend ONA12

<p>Do you produce or study digital media?</p><p>Applications are now open for an all-expenses-paid trip to San Francisco to attend and cover the Online News Association's annual conference from Sept. 20-22.</p><p>Twenty applicants will be selected to work in the Student Newsroom, a digital media environment that will provide "hands-on experience producing content for the ONA12 website before and during the conference, under the personal guidance of professional mentors."</p><p>Students will also be able to attend sessions and network with experts and journalists.</p>

Nominations for 2012 Peter Gzowski Life Literacy Fellowship now being accepted

<p>Nominations for the <a href="http://abclifeliteracy.ca/peter-gzowski-life-literacy-fellowship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2012 Peter Gzowski Life Literacy Fellowship</a> are now being accepted. The fellowship is intended for a journalist or journalism student with an interest in pursuing stories pertaining to adult literacy issues. The successful applicant will receive $3,000 in funding to help in the research and development of a media story in print, broadcast or online. </p>
