Pressroom nostalgia and the decline of print

<p><strong>By Steve Ladurantaye</strong></p><p>The most important lesson you learn about newspapers when you’re five is that you must never wear your good shoes into the pressroom.</p><p>The floors are covered in ink, and are as slippery as they are colourful. It only took a few solid steps into the dark, industrial pressroom to get enough ink on your soles to leave marks everywhere for the rest of the day.</p>

Is it time for an information diet?

<p>I was outside the main conference hall at the AllStream Centre in Toronto, repeatedly refreshing my email. When nothing new showed up, I reached for my iPhone, opened up Tweetbot and made the familiar pull-down gesture to check for updates. Headlines about Louis C.K. (via <em>Toronto Life</em>), the Vancouver Canucks (<em>The Globe and Mail</em>) and manatees (Huffington Post Canada) popped to the top of my Twitter feed.</p>
