Le « chilling effect » : une croyance bien davantage qu’une réalité

Il semble si naturel de croire que les décisions des tribunaux, en matière de diffamation ou de respect de la vie privée par exemple, ont pour effet de refroidir les ardeurs des journalistes (le prétendu mais non moins populaire « chilling effect »), de les inhiber au point de priver le public d’informations importantes.</p><p> </p>

Move over Twitter: poll finds Canadians still watching, reading and listening to ‘old media’

<p>Canadians continue to most frequently turn to traditional platforms for their daily news despite the emergence of new online methods of consuming news, according to a new poll released Wednesday.</p><p>Data from the poll, conducted by Ipsos Reid on behalf of The Canadian Journalism Foundation, also shows that nearly 40 per cent of Canadians consider themselves to highly-engaged news consumers who check on the news frequently via a number of different sources.</p>

The Globe and Mail to launch paywall on Oct. 22

<p> </p><p><em>The Globe and Mail</em> will launch a paywall on Oct. 22, charging non-print subscribers who wish to access more than 10 articles a month on theglobeandmail.com.</p><p>The paywall — as well as a few details about it, including the fact that it would be taking a metered approach — was <a href="http://j-source.ca/article/globe-and-mail-move-behind-metered-paywall-fall">announced in May</a>, but the costs and specifics surrounding it had not been publicly available until today.</p>
