<p> </p><p>The <a href="/Documents%20and%20Settings/lmckeon/Desktop/2013%20Stories/February%202013/Daily%20Stories/westernmagazineawards.ca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Western Magazine Awards</a> is now accepting submissions</p><p>The monetary awards – which are open to any Canadian print and online magazines published west of the Ontario-Manitoba border – are accepting entries in 12 written and six visual categories, as well as lifetime, regional and magazine of the year awards.</p>

White House press corps challenges familiar to Canadian journalists

The Gordon Sinclair Roving Reporter Bursary now accepting applications

<p> </p><p>The <a href="http://www.gordonsinclairfoundation.ca/fellowship.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gordon Sinclair Roving Reporter Bursary</a> is now accepting applications.</p><p>The bursary supports field research and a reporting trip by an early-career Canadian journalist who has recently graduated from one of Canada’s university-level journalism programs. The purpose of the $15,000 bursary is to encourage a young journalist to get off the beaten track and to spend a considerable period away on a reporting on a Canadian or foreign assignment.</p>

Stephen Northfield to leave The Globe and Mail to join Human Rights Watch

<p>After 18 years at <em>The Globe and Mail</em>, Stephen Northfield is leaving the newspaper to become Human Rights Watch’s director of digital media in New York City.</p><p>Northfield has served on <em>The Globe</em>’s national desk, as its foreign editor and most recently, as deputy managing editor, digital and editor of globeandmail.com. He will be leading a team that will be working to increase Human Rights Watch's digital presence across all platforms. </p>
