Journée mondiale de la liberté de presse: le Canada dénoncé pour son manque de transparence

<p> </p><p>En cette Journée internationale de la liberté de la presse, le Canada est interpellé dans le rapport annuel de Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (<a href="http://www.cjfe.org/sites/default/files/2013_CJFE_Review-of-free-expression-in-Canada.pdf">ici en version .pdf</a>), qui accorde la note D- au gouvernement Harper.</p><p>L’organisation dénonce le silence imposé aux scientifiques par Pêches et Océans Canada, de même que des policiers qui se sont fait passer pour des journalistes afin de surveiller des militants autochtones.</p>

CJFE Freedom of Expression Review cites many problems, some good signs

<p><strong>By Grant Buckler</strong></p><p><a href="http://www.cjfe.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canadian Journalists for Free Expression</a> has released its annual <a href="https://cjfe.org/resources/features/2013review" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Review of Free Expression in Canada</a>, surveying free expression and access to information issues and grading various institutions from A to F on their performance in the past year.</p><p>“Freedom of expression in Canada truly does span the spectrum from head of the class to flunking out,” the report observes.</p>

Canadian journalist Julia Belluz named Knight Science Journalism Fellow

tonight signs TTC distribution deal

<p><strong style="font-size: 10px;">By Tamara Baluja</strong></p><p><em>tonight</em> newspaper has scored big with a distribution deal that allows the free biweekly paper inside the TTC subway stations as of this week.</p><p>Publisher and co-founder John Cameron said <em>tonight</em> had been chasing after this deal since its inception four years ago. Although the newspaper is handed out by newsies outside the stations, Cameron says actually having the newspaper on Gateway Newstands inside the stations will boost readership.</p>

<p> </p><p>Peter Mansbridge is celebrating his 25<sup>th</sup> anniversary at the helm of CBC’s flagship news show <em>The National</em>. The anchor took a trip down memory lane on his <em><a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/petermansbridge/2013/05/peter-mansbridge-on-25-years-at-the-national-1.html">Inside the News blog</a></em>, describing it as “long journey” of which he is proud.  </p>
