Toronto Sun co-founder Peter Worthington dies in Toronto

<p><span style="font-size: 10px;">Peter Worthington died around midnight last night in a Toronto hospital but </span><a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/05/13/peter-worthington-1927-2013.html" style="font-size: 10px;">apparently we'll be able to see the last article he wrote </a><span style="font-size: 10px;">- his own obituary - in tomorrow's edition of the 'The Little Newspaper That Grew' that he help start in 1971.</span></p>

French investigative news site unique

Newspapers Canada considering a national press council

<p><strong style="font-size: 10px;">By Tamara Baluja</strong></p><p>Newspapers Canada is considering a plan put forth by the Ontario Press Council to establish a national press council. The decision comes after a <a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/139826701/Press-Councils-Report-Final">Ryerson University study</a> on the state of press councils in Canada, which concluded the press councils were ineffective in their present form and did not meet the geographical and digital realities of the publishing industry.</p>

Torstar and Quebecor profits plummet

<p><span style="font-size: 10px;">Torstar, the owner of Canada’s largest circulating daily, reported a 76 per cent fall in its first quarter profit and has cut 105 jobs in its media and book publishing business, </span><a href="http://business.financialpost.com/2013/05/08/torstar-profit-plummets-as-advertisers-stay-away/" style="font-size: 10px;">Reuters reported</a><span style="font-size: 10px;">. Meanwhile Quebecor’s net income dropped by about half to $35.6 million, in the company’s first quarter results.</span></p>

Moving tribute from Ottawa Citizen to Boston Globe

<p><em>Ottawa Citizen</em>'s deputy editorial pages editor Kate Heartfield wrote a moving tribute to the <em>Boston Globe </em>saluting their coverage of the marathon bombing.</p><p>Heartfield <a href="http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/newspaper+heart+city/8322784/story.html#ixzz2SceQB7Ls">writes</a> she toyed with the idea of sending them pizza - "If there’s one thing that ties journalists together, it’s newsroom pizza." But instead she wrote this tribute, "because I work for a newspaper, and this is how I say thank you."</p>
