Border Crossings wins magazine of the year at Western Magazine Awards

<p><em>Border Crossings</em>, a Winnipeg quarterly cultural magazine, won magazine of the year and Manitoba magazine of the year at the 31st Annual Western Magazine Awards. The awards were presented June 21 in Vancouver.</p>

Postmedia and Ottawa Citizen stories on “Robocalls” win Michener Award

<p style="margin-top: 12px; margin-bottom: 12px; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">Canada's top journalism prize was awarded tonight to Postmedia News and the Ottawa Citizen for what the jury for the Michener award called "the detailed and sustained reporting (that) exposed the use of “robocalls” to mislead and harass voters during the 2011 federal election campaign." </p>

CBC leads with 30 RTDNA Canada awards, Global comes in second with 10

Investigative report on teen boot camps wins best feature at PWAC awards

<p>Georgie Binks won the PWAC award for best feature story for “<a href="http://www.slideshare.net/autumnd86/readers-digest-1">Tough Love</a>,” an investigative report on teen boot camps published in <em>Readers Digest</em>. Jackie Middleton’s health story in the <em>Globe and Mail </em>on how to “<a href="http://www.besthealthmag.ca/get-healthy/health/does-disease-run-in-your-family">Unlock the Secrets of your Family Tree</a>” won the short articles award. Peggy Berkowitz won the PWAC editor of the year award for her work in <em>University Affairs.</em></p>

Winners of Gordon Sinclair Roving Reporter Bursary announced

<p>At a time when most news organizations are cutting back on foreign bureaus and on travel, three reporters have got the Gordon Sinclair Roving Reporter Bursary allowing them to report from Peru, southern Europe and northern Alberta.</p><p>The $15,000 bursary supports travel for a minimum of six weeks for an early career Canadian journalist who has within the last five years graduated from a university-level journalism program.</p>

Global News makes history as first Canadian network to win Edward R. Murrow Award

<p>Global News has <a href="http://globalnews.ca/news/636363/global-news-wins-edward-r-murrow-award/">won the Radio Television Digital News Association's (RTNDA) National Edward R Murrow award</a> for Overall Excellence for network television.</p><p>It`s a historic win for its flagship newscast Global National with Dawna Friesen, and marks the first time a Canadian network has won the award since it was first presented in 1971. Recent award-winners include ABC News and NBC News.</p>
