Applications will close on February 21, 2014 for both.</p><p>The Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Investigative Journalism, supported by a grant from the BMO Financial Group, will be awarded to a mature journalist to devote up to four months to complete a reporting project.</p>

READ MORE<p><strong>The National Newspaper Awards (NNAs) will begin accepting entries for the 2013 competition on Dec. 15, 2013.</strong></p><p>Entries are being accepted in each of the 22 categories between Dec. 15, 2013, and Jan. 15, 2014.</p><p>To be eligible, an entry must have been published first in 2013, in English or French, by a Canadian daily newspaper (whether in print or online) or by an online publication that has met criteria established by the NNA Board of Governors in accordance with the rules of entry.</p>

READ MORE<p>Halifax writer Chris Benjamin and Toronto writer Paul Webster won the 2013 <a href="http://www.greberwritingaward.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dave Greber Freelance Writers Awards</a>, as announced on Oct. 20.</p><p>Benjamin won the $5,000 Dave Greber Freelance Writers Book Award. The winning chapter, titled “Creation Story,” is from his forthcoming book <em>The Shubenacadie Indian Residential School.</em></p>
